It looks like the FIA is going to ban the high noses of the Formula 1 cars in the year 2000. The most important reason for this is - among safety reasons - that the FIA didn't succeed into making Formula 1 slower. A high nose contibuites a lot to the downforce and general aerodynamics, which improves the overall speed.

Because of the tyre war between Goodyear and Bridgestone the development of the grooved tyre went so quickly that it is almost as good as a slick. If Goodyear really leaves Formula 1 at the end of this year, this measure might not be needed because the development of a (new) tyre wouldn't go as fast as this year.

Nevertheless Bridgestone introduces a wider front tyre this week-end. This tyre is 2 cm wider than his predecessor and will probably be used the rest of the season.
