The free practice training of today showed that the teams are very competitive on this circuit. Lots of drivers improved the best time during the practice. Hockenheim is clearly a circuit for fast engines which you can also see on the wings of the cars which are almost completely horizontal. Gerhard Berger was fastest with 1:46.145 sec. The gap to position nine (Barrichello) was less then a second though. Jos drove a 16th time. In one of his laps he started behind Berger, and it was clear to see that he lost most of his time due to a lack of engine power. However, the new Hart engine will be used during qualifications tomorrow. See German Grand Prix results for the complete results.

Jos' official statement after the race: "We're having difficulty finding a reasonable set-up: braking isn't good, we have oversteer out of slow speed corners, and understeer into high speed corners. And when we tried to change the car, we went the wrong way. We are going to have to spend a late night looking at the computer to see what we can do."

"However, I am looking forward to using the Hart air valve engine tomorrow. This is a power circuit, and I hope that Brian's engine will make a difference."
