According to a quoted senior official in Japan's newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun Honda motor company is definitively making a comeback in Formula 1 in the year 2000. The official said: "It's impossible in 1999. We are aiming at the year 2000." Honda plans on returning as a constructor and engine supplier. Honda ended it's own F1 programme after the 1992 season with a disappointing second place in the constructor's championship and Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger as drivers for McLaren Honda. In 1995 the name Honda returned as badge for Mugen engines.
