Spaniard Marc Gene will drive this year for Minardi. Thanks to his brought in sponsorship with a value of 7 million dollar of the telecommunication company Telefonica, Gene was able to buy his seat at Minardi. He drove from 1993 in Formula Ford, Formula 3000 and won last year the Formula Nissan in Spain. Besides Gene, Pedro de la Rosa also makes a good chance in gaining a seat with the team of Arrows. He tested for the team at Silverstone. The last time that a Spaniard joined Formula 1 was in 1989.
