Max Verstappen is amongst the six top athletes nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year 2022 Award.
Every year Laureus gives one of the most prestigious international sports awards and after being named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year last year, the now two-time Formula 1 world champion has a chance again to win this title.
“It’s an honour to be nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award”, says Max. “Winning last year was an incredible moment for me: it is such a prestigious accolade, and it means even more when you’re up against the world’s best athletes. To be shortlisted again is an achievement in itself, so thank you to my team Oracle Red Bull Racing for the support throughout our Championship winning year and thank you to the world’s media for nominating me. It’s great to see that the team where also nominated for a Laureus Team of the Year award, something they definitely deserve.”
Max has formidable competition in his category with the likes of Lionel Messi (football), Rafael Nadal (tennis), Stephen Curry (basketball), Mondo Duplantis (pole vault) and Kylian Mbappé (football).
Also the world championship of Red Bull Racing has been recognized as they have been nominated for the Laureus World Team of the Year.
