During the qualification, Ferrari has set the tone for the rest of the championship. Michael Schumacher starts tomorrow from pole position with besides him Eddy Irvine. Although Häkkinen was the fastest in the early stage of the qualifying, Schumacher out-qualified him shortly after. David Coulthard couldn't find the speed that he needed as well. He was unable to do better than 5th place, just behind Giancarlo Fisichella. It also looked very promising for Villeneuve at the beginning of the qualifying, but in the end he had to be satisfied with only 9th position. Jos planned his qualification into 4 runs. Although he improved almost a second compared to the morning free practice, he didn't came further than 18th position. Jos told us after qualifying; "I'm really disappointed about this qualification. I had tremendous understeer during the first 3 runs. Before the last run, the team tried to solve that problem but in the last run I had a lot of oversteer. to forget I want to forget this qualifying a soon as possible. I'll have to make it up tomorrow during the start".
