In the second free training of this morning the circuit was dry. Mika Hakkinen was the fastest with 0.075 advantage on Michael Schumacher. Ralf Schumacher became third on only a small distance behind his brother Michael, therewith showing again the way up of Jordan. In fourth, fifth and sixth position followed respectively Coulthard, Villeneuve and Frentzen.
For some time it looked like Jos couldn't participate because of his gearbox problem, but the team repaired it in time, so Jos could still do 8 laps. He was doing well, although his 17th time does not show this. Almost all the time he was faster than teammate Rubens, but in the end Barrichello passed him with only 0.1 seconds advantage. Jos is satisfied about the car setup and looks with confidence towards the qualification.
