Michael Schumacher will start from pole position for tomorrows Grand Prix of Italy, with besides him on the first row Jacques Villeneuve. The both McLaren drivers Häkkinen and Coulthard didn't came further than third en fourth. Jos ended his qualification on 17th place. The qualification was characterised of the long waiting of the drivers to go out for their first run. After 35 minutes, the first drivers entered the track to make two runs.
Jos told as after the session, "We knew that it would be a cat and mouse game and therefore we went out late on the track. I have driven several laps to ensure a qualifying time. When I came back into the pits, I was unlucky to be called in by the stewards and so I lost a lot of time, which we could use to improve the set-up. During the second run, I had difficulty's with understeer and oversteer of the car. Specially in the chicanes I had a lot of oversteer. The new engine however is noticeable improved. For tomorrow, its very important to finish the race".
