The first free Saturday practice was totally driven on a very wet track under very bad circumstances. Still Jos and Rubens managed to drive some laps under these conditions. With a laptime of 1.41.435, Jos managed to put him on the 9th place. Rubens did even better and was with a laptime of 1.40.613 on 6th place. Frentzen was the fastest with a laptime of 1.39.479
