The weather has been of great influence ...

Published on 11 September 1998 by Verstappen Info Page

The weather has been of great influence this season to the Formula 1 sport. Although the sky during the first session was very clouded, it remained dry. However after 20 minutes in the second session, the first droplets of rain fell out of the sky. Until that time, a few drivers had tried to improve their times from the first session, and Eddy Irvine succeeded, setting the fastest time of the day in 1:24.987. Soon after the first droplets fell down, it started to rain heavy and it soon became clear that no driver would be able to improve his time. The exception was Pedro Diniz, since he did not set a real time at all yet. On intermediates he drove 1:53.671. The top 6 at the end of the day was therefor as followed: P1:Eddy Irvine, P2:Michael Schumacher, P3:David Coulthard, P4:Jacques Villeneuve , P5: Mika Häkkinen and P6: Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

Jean Alesi was very unlucky since he was not able to set a time in both sessions. Jos also did not go out in the second session and therefor his time of 1:28.606 from the first session was not improved and his position 17 remained the same. Barrichello went out once and improved his time slightly to 1:26.066 which brought him to Position 14.
