Red Bull set the pace in Mexico FP3, Max second fastest
Published on 06 November 2021 by Stefan Meens
Max Verstappen finished the third practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix in second place behind local hero Sergio Perez, confirming the strong pace of the two Red Bulls at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Lewis Hamilton completed the top three in his Mercedes.
FP3 starts quietly with only a handful of drivers venturing out of their pit boxes after five minutes into the session. Max Verstappen fans have to wait longer. The Red Bull Racer does not steer his RB16B out of the garage until the halfway point of the session, 30 minutes in.
When he eventually does set a timed lap, he does so on the soft Pirellis. He clocks a 1:17.5, granting him top spot on the leader boards. After a cool-down lap, Max clocks his best time of the session (1:17.217) with twenty minutes to go.
In the closing stages of the session, Max heads out yet again on a fresh set of the softs. His first effort on the new tyres is a scruffy one, meaning the Dutchman does not better his lap time. In the meantime, Sergio Perez has clocked the fastest time, meaning the two Red Bulls finish the session on top, with the Mexican claiming P1.
